FAQ
What You Need To Know
Frequently Asked Questions
What is in your natural treatment?
The main two ingredients is garlic and water, but depending on the timing of the season and conditions of the property we may also use bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI) during the larvae development, & vegetable oil as an adjuvant.
Do you ever use pesticides?
We believe that all pest control programs should always start with a natural, chemical-free & holistic approach first.
Most pest control companies use synthetic chemical pesticides as their primary defence against mosquitoes and ticks, while others are 100% natural. We are the in-between. We use a common-sense, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, which means chemical pesticides are an option, but our very last one, and applied only in a strategic, targeted manner vs. broadcast application.
We pride ourselves on closely following The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation & Parks of Ontario (MCEP) recommendations, and believe that a carefully-conducted IPM approach can drastically reduce the need for chemicals, and chemical resistance.
Do your treatments kill mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects?
Believe it or not, although mosquitoes and ticks are a nuisance, they are actually a food source for other insects and animals, which makes them an integral part of our eco-system.
With our integrated pest control approach, our first treatment option is designed to repel these insects vs. outright kill them. This approach is also safe for your vegetable gardens and won’t kill other beneficial insects like bees.
Only if absolutely necessary will we apply a pesticide, which kill mosquitoes and other insects on contact. Many mosquito and tick control companies will opt to spray your entire property with pesticides.
What makes us different, is that we will only use pesticides in a very targeted manner, applying only to specific problem areas during specific times, and rotating our use to avoid negatively impacting the eco-system or other beneficial insects.
How often do you need to come?
If you want seasonal coverage we like to come every 2-3 weeks for best results. Mosquitoes and ticks are impossible to eradicate due to their life cycles. Our goal is to reduce and control the populations to an acceptable level in the safest way possible. Even companies that use heavy pesticides cannot kill off all insects, and will need to come regularly.
How do you apply the treatment?
We use backpack sprayers (powered and hand-pumped), and apply around your property, ensuring we tackle the most problematic places for mosquitoes & ticks. This includes areas of standing water, dense vegetation, wood piles, low lying trees, shrubs, and mulch beds.
How quickly can I get a quote?
Generally speaking, we can turn around a quote within the same business day, or at latest the next day.
If we have to assess your property in person, we’ll provide you with a quote within 24 hours of our visit.
How much will it cost to treat my property?
When you fill out our request form, we’ll gather as much information as possible about your outdoor space. We’ll use software to determine the overall surface area and density of foliage.
If your space is over 1 acre, or you are outside the Clarington/Durham region, we may need to swing by for a visit to assess your property.
Based on the above information, we’ll provide you with custom pricing to your property. For multi-treatment packages, we offer more cost-effective pricing over a one-time treatment.
Do you offer group/neighbour discounts?
Yes – if you have neighbours that would like to get in on our services, please let us know or have them contact us directly, mentioning the referral. We’ll do our best to arrange schedules and offer a competitive discount for multiple neighbouring properties.
The best part about multiple neighbours treating their properties is that everyone will reap the benefits of protection, as there will be an even larger barrier.
We also very much love referrals, so be sure to have your friends and family mention who referred them, so that we can follow-up.
How often do you need to come?
If you want seasonal protection, we like to come every 2-3 weeks for best results. Mosquitoes and ticks are impossible to completely eradicate due to their life cycles.
Our goal is to reduce and control the populations to an acceptable level. Even companies that use pesticides cannot kill off all insects, and will need to come regularly.
Do I need to be home when the treatment is being applied?
No, you do not need to be home for us to perform our service. The customer experience is important to us though, so you will be communicated with every step of the way.
You’ll receive an email before our visit, including tips for preparation, as well as a follow-up once we’ve completed the treatment. We may also include suggestions to help you naturally prevent mosquitoes & ticks on your property in between treatments.
Do you spray my lawn?
That depends on your areas of concern. Typically, mosquitoes do not nest or hide in short grass. However, ticks will crawl through grass that is tall or is more damp and shaded.
So, if your concern is mosquitoes, we’ll focus on the areas where they tend to congregate. If your concern is ticks, then we will treat your lawn where necessary. If you are concerned about both. we’ll cover all of the above!
What if it doesn’t work?
We want you to be satisfied with our service, so we offer a free 10-day return visit window, in the event you don’t find the results are to your satisfaction.
Our first control action is always natural & chemical-free. This is often enough for most residential properties. However if our customer is not satisfied with the reduction or reapplication, we can then offer a very targeted approach with pesticides to help keep you and your family safe, comfortable & happy.
What if it rains?
We try our best to be nimble with scheduling, but sometimes it rains. If it rains heavily prior to your treatment date, we’ll likely need to reschedule. If it’s a light rain, we should be good to go!
If it rains after applying the treatment, there should be no issue. If we can get about 30 minutes of drying time, that will not affect the efficacy of the treatment.
How long after the treatment before I can go outside again?
We recommend waiting approximately 30 minutes to give the product time to dry before entering the treated area.
Do you treat other pests like ants, gnats, Gypsy moths etc?
We focus on mosquitoes and ticks primarily, but if you have other insect problems, please contact us and we can discuss further!
Do you employ only women / moms?
No. We have both men & women technicians. Just like Weed Man has women lawn care experts 🙂
